Wordrook Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
Wordrook is an Android app that lets you save the words you come across while reading and learn them with spaced repetition. This page explains what data the app keeps, where it keeps it, and what it sends to whom.
In short
- There's no account; you're never asked for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your word list and review history stay on your phone only.
- To look up a word's meaning, only that word and the two languages you chose are sent to our server.
- No ads, analytics or tracking tools are used, and no data is sold.
Data that stays on your phone
The words you save, their meanings, your review history and your settings (language choice, reminder time) are stored only in the app's database on your phone. They're deleted when you uninstall the app.
If Android's automatic backup is on, this data may be included in the backup in your Google account as part of Android's standard backup. That backup is managed by Google and is subject to Google's privacy policy; Wordrook can't access it.
Data sent to the server
When you save a word, the app sends these three pieces of information to Wordrook's server to look up its meaning:
- the word or short phrase you selected (at most 5 words, 50 characters),
- the word's language,
- the language to translate it into.
No account, device identifier, location or the rest of your word list is sent with this request. The connection is encrypted with HTTPS.
The server asks an AI language model for the word's meaning and caches the result. Only the word and the two languages go to the language model; your IP address and nothing else about you does. The cache holds only the word, the two languages and the result; it doesn't record who asked. Everyone who asks for the same word gets the same result. Because these records can't be linked to you, they aren't personal data.
Service providers
- Cloudflare (USA): Our server runs on Cloudflare Workers. To prevent abuse, the number of requests from the same IP address is limited; your IP address is processed for this purpose and may stay in Cloudflare's technical logs for up to 7 days. Words aren't written to these logs. Cloudflare privacy policy
Clipboard and other permissions
- Clipboard: When you tap the Quick Settings tile or the copy bubble, the app reads the text on the clipboard once. The clipboard isn't read at any other time, and the text it reads is used as described above only if you save it.
- Display over other apps: Used only if you turn on the copy bubble.
- Notifications: Shown only if you turn on the review reminder, through an alarm set on your phone.
Deleting your data
You can delete a word in the app, and delete all your data by uninstalling the app. Since the server's cache isn't linked to anyone, it can't be separated by person; if you'd like a particular word removed from the cache, write to us.
Children
Wordrook isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the current version is published on this page and the date above is updated.
